The list of Private Medical Institutes in Tamil Nadu is provided here. These institutes are classified as private universities or deemed universities and so are autonomous in nature. So the colleges are practically free to have their own admission process and fee structure.
Till 2015 , admissions to the above colleges are arbitrary and mostly based on capitation fees. Institutes like SRM and Ramachandra Medical college had separate entrance tests and admitted students based on that. Other colleges did not have any entrance test, but admitted students based on their own , arbitrary criteria.
Since the supreme court mandated NEET as the qualifying criteria from the year 2016, the 2016 admissions were done based on NEET qualifying marks.
However students have to apply individually to all colleges,as there was no centralized admission mechanism (actually SC recommended a centralised counseling, preferably done by Govt or independent body, but nothing that sort happened) .
Like last year, the 2017 admissions for the deemed universities will be based on the NEET marks. As of know there is no centralised counseling, students have to apply individually. Students from all over India are eligible to apply and study in any of these universities.
CMC Vellore, one of the premier medical institutions in India is also a honorable addition to the above list. CMC Vellore admissions will also be based on NEET marks, but will have an additional screening test and interview before selecting the final set of students. Students have to apply separately for admissions to CMC Vellore.
