NEET 2017 – Expected Cut off Marks for All India Quota and Tamil Nadu State Quota

With the NEET 2017 exam just couple of days away, students are preparing for the same feverishly. TN politicians are still demanding NEET to be exempted for TN, the self styled leaders of the NO-NEET-FOR-TN backers are crying hoarse and questioning the wisdom of everybody involved.

Leaving aside that, it is important to have a look at the real thing that matters – the expected cut-off marks for the All India quota and also for the Tamil Nadu state quota.

For seats through AIQ (All India quota), last year cut-off is 468 for open category. This year, because of the increase  in seats through AIQ , the cut-off might slightly come down. The AIQ cut-off for NEET 2017 might be in the range of 445-450 for the open category .

Since this is the first time NEET is being held in Tamil Nadu for the state quota of 85%, it is difficult to judge the cut-off marks. Based on observing the other states state quota marks and cut-off, for TN the cut-off should be in the range of 420-430.

But as mentioned earlier, being the first time and also because of the lack of adequate preparation by the state board students, the cut off might go down in the range of 380 – 400 too.

So, for the TN state quota of 85%, the cut-off on the higher side might be around 420 and on the lower side it might be around 380.

Please understand that the cut-off for the AIQ and state quota is primarily for the Govt colleges. For the private colleges and the deemed universities, the cut-off will vary and will be difficult to arrive at. As long as one is qualified in NEET, the candidate can seek admission in any of the private medical colleges or the deemed university.

Last year, the eligibility/qualifying mark of NEET is 145. This year it may slightly come down to around 140 or so or will be in the range of 135 to 140. So anybody getting above the qualifying mark will be eligible to pursue the MBBS degree.

So , In Summary

Type NEET 2016 NEET 2017 expected
AIQ Cut-off 468 445-470
TN State quota Cut-off -NA- 380-400 (or) 420-430
NEET Eligibility Marks 145 135-140

ps – Please understand that these are estimates and guesses based on the available data and are not official results.

    • As of now TN has yet to decide on admission process. By default admission has to be done on NEET marks. Unless the authorities make a decision, the admission has to be done through NEET marks.

Pro-rata method is heavily biased towards state board students. Weightage method with 60-40 is more equitable and for short-term looks a more acceptable solution. It is up to the authorities now,

      • All the best for my bro and sis who are all appearing NEET exam… 👍👍👍.Do well…..

    • Through AIQ quota itself there is a chance. Depends on the cut-off and may get tier-ii govt colleges. But Surely in state govt quota this marks can fetch a good govt college in TN.

  1. With a score of 480, is it possible to get a medical seat through AIQ or state quota of Tamil Nadu in unreserved category?

  2. dear sir . i belong to TN (OBC). i am expecting neet score of around 435(after cross checking with unofficial answer key). am i able to get in any government colleges in TN???
    thanks in advance..

    • I think you can get a Tier-II govt college for sure. There is a fair chance in getting a tier 1 govt college too. All these through state quota.

  3. What about deemed colleges cut off for mbbs n bds in Maharashtra or any other state? Would I get deemed bds at 200 ?

    • It depends on the college you apply and the counseling process they follow. But any case BDS should not be a problem I guess. Shortlist few colleges and enquire with them.

    • Will be touch and go. Difficult, but cannot be ruled out. Depends on the category. UR means very difficult. BC there is a chance. MBC and below high chance.

  4. i am getting 320 marks(obc-bc).can i get mbbs seat in any college.or in any private college with low fees in the range 1-4 lakhs per year.pls provide some name of colleges i can try.i hope you reply soon.

    • There is a slim chance of getting a seat in the govt quota seats of 65% in the self financing private medical colleges like IRT Perundurai, PSG Coimbatore, Annapoorna Salem etc. If you get a seat in any of the colleges through govt counseling your fees will be low as per your expectations.,

If the cut-off is higher than 320 you may not get seats in this category. Then in that case you have to join a pvt college by paying high fees.

    • It depends on the cutoff marks for SC in the state quota. Since this is the first time, we don’t have data on this. But I think it may be slightly difficult as expected cut-off might be in the range of 200 to 220

    • SC cut-off for AIQ last year is around 350 For this year too I think it will be in the same range. So there is a bright chance in getting a seat. But it may not be in a higher ranked college. May be in the second tier govt colleges.

  5. Sir
I am getting 520 in neet ug 2017…. a Tamil Nadu domicile !!
What are the colleges I might possibly get into with this score (if possible)
PS : I come under OBC category !

    • If everything goes right, you can get one among the top three colleges through state quota.

Through AIQ also you will be able to get a seat, but may be in a lower ranked college.

    • Are you from the state board or cbse.because this score too high to ask for a possibility. It’s sure of a government college seat.. ATB..
      From a co-NEET aspirant

  6. Sir,

What will be fee structure if we get through counselling to a private medical college in TamilNadu? Also, govt college details too plz

    • BC cut-off is expected in the range of around 360-380. So, you can be assured of a seat but not sure about the college, You may get in the Tier-II govt medical colleges.

    • Depends on the cut-off, I think it will be difficult or you might have a slim chance – MBC cut-off is expected around 320-340. So you need to wait and see,

  7. Sir,
I expect to get 200 in neet 2017 under obc category in TN.pls send me the colleges name with low fees for my marks

    • I think for that marks, govt colleges will be difficult to get as the cut-off is expected to be more than 300 for BC-MBC and around 360-380 for BC alone.

  8. Sir,
My expectation is 485 marks in 2017 under OBC-BC. Will I get a seat in one of the three main Government colleges in Chennai under AIR or state Quota. Pls inform sir, Thanks.

    • For AIQ this is a border mark. You might just scrape through, seat can be assured only after third round and that too BDS or in tier ii govt medical colleges.

For state quota this is a good mark. You can get a seat in any of the Tier 1 medical colleges through state quota. With a bit of luck you might get in one of the top 3 colleges too. But cannot be sure as those who ranked low in AIQ, but have better ranking in state quota will have preference over you.

  9. Thanks for your blog and answers, Can you clarify for TN domicile, we both parents and my daughter’s names in TN address in passport, ration card, adhaar card, she did 12 th in outside state, from 7th to 11th she did in TN, whether TN domicile is ok for my daughter

    • If your daughter has completed 12th also here in TN we can be absolutely sure that she is TN domicile. Studying 12th standard outside state is a bit of concern. You might have to check up with concerned authorities.

    • If you have a ration card it won’t be a problem. Since your daughter have studied in other state for 12th you will be asked to submit a nativity certificate. Best of luck 🙂

    • If you get a seat in a private medical college through Govt counseling the fee structure will be in the range of Rs 3 Lakhs per annum . (govt quota seats in pvt institutes).

If you get a seat in a private medical college or a deemed university through their own counseling or a centralised counseling the fee structure starts with Rs 14 L to Rs 18 L per annum.

    • Around 2 to 3 Lakh per annum, in some colleges it ia around 3.5 L per annum. Other charges like Hostel fees, equipment fees etc.

  10. Sir, I’m getting around 350 in neet…. Is there any chance of me getting into a private college through counselling . I belong to the general category.

    • Getting a seat in the private colleges will not be a problem. The counseling methodology for the private colleges is not yet defined properly. Any case, for your marks you can surely get a seat in a private college.

  11. Sir,
Thanks for your kindness. To get a seat through state quota should we apply separately in TN or applied to NEET is itself sufficient. Pls explain sir, Thanks

    • TN govt medical admission authorities will issue a notification with respect to this. We need to wait for that. Though, applying to NEET alone is sufficient, they will still call for separate application process. So please wait for the notification.

  12. I am getting 450 in neet ug 2017 from Tamil Nadu. will i get a seat in tamilnadu govt medical college???? What are the colleges I might possibly get into with this score (if possible) I come under BC category.

    • 450 marks with BC category can surely get a seat. Not very sure about the college though. Last ranked Tier 1 Govt medical college like Salem or Trichy, or top ranked Tier ii colleges like Tuticorin.

      • Sir am expecting 350 marks in neet 2017 .is there may any chance to get government medical seat in tamilnadu through 85%quota??? I am belongs to obc category.

  13. I am likely to get 466 in NEET 2017 from Tamil nadu. Will i get a seat in Tamilnadu govt college, preferably in coimbatore. I come under unreserved category.

    • 466 marks in Open category is bit dicey. Any case I think seat is assured in any of the govt medical colleges (esp. the tier two colleges)

  14. Sir, I m getting around 400 marks in neet 2017 under sc category delhi state, is there any chance to get mbbs seat????

  15. RESPECTED SIR / MADAM,
    VANAKKAM.
MY SON WILL GET 190 TO 205 IN NEET, 2017. CAN HE GET ANY GOVT. COLLEGE / PVT. COLLEGE UNDER GOVT. QUOTA /DEEMED UNIVERSITY UNDER GOVT. QUOTA IN ALL INDIA 15% QUOTA OR 85% STATE QUOTA. WE BELONGS TO S.C. CATEGORY. SIR KINDLY GUIDE / INFORM ME.

  16. All India quota will not be possible, as the cut-off for SC candidates are expected in the range of 330-350. Within the state quota, there is a fighting chance. The cut-off is expected in the range of 220. In that case it will be difficult. If the range is around 200-220 there will be a chance. So it depends on the cut-off for the state quota. We need to wait till the results are announced to know the cut-off marks.

    Hope this helps.

  17. I belong to OBC in Tamilnadu and I’m expecting 340 marks in NEET , will I get a seat in govt college or atleast govt aided ?

  18. sir, In Tamilnadu private medcial colleges demanding capitation fee from students, even if students qualified NEET(40 percentile).

  19. It would be really helpful if you could provide a list of medical colleges (both govt and private) that have good accreditation and are not under any litigation from MCI. A lot of students lose their seats through counselling because of a bad reputation of the college by MCI and other corruption issues.

    Thanks in advance.

  20. sir my expected mark in neet ug 2017 is 370 to 400. can I get a seat in good govt. colleges under OBC {MBC} category…

  21. My neet score is around 380. Can i expect a seat in Chennai or coimbatore gvt college? I belong to bc category

  22. i expect to get around 400 in neet 2017 i belong to OBC category . will i get a admission in medical colleges tis yr in tamilnadu or any where in india

  23. why bc and mbc cutoff range has a huge difference..does 320-330 marks can fetch a seat for mbc but not for bc. anyway, what is the status of the pudukottai medical college sir, does it start admission from this year or not..and also can you tell how many students appeared in neet 2017 from tn only.and also atleast the mark range of top 10 rank holders in neet 2016 from tamilnadu.

    http://www.deccanchronicle.com/nation/in-other-news/170816/chennai-student-secures-141st-neet-rank.html

in this link there are three guys but are they the top three from tn.pls do provide whatever details you have regarding this..

    • Since NEET will be used first time for the state quota, we actually don’t know how the cut-off will turn out to be. What we are talking are educated guesses with a bit of error margin.

We expect 380 for UR cut-off, 360 for BC and 330 for MBC.

Pudukottai medical college will not be operational this year. Only after MCI approval they can start operations.

Around 88000 students appeared for NEET 2017 from TN only this year. In 2016 when NEET was not there for state quota, only 40000 students applied for the TN Medical counselling. Additional students appearing for NEET shows that medical aspirant are seeing opportunities in NEET i.e chance to get seats through NEET are more than getting a seat through state counseling.

MCI publishes only rank based data and not mark based data. So it is difficult to get mark related details. But is is generally believed that bulk of the TN AIQ qualifiers will be in the range of 515 to 550.

  24. I am scoring 568 marks in Neet 2017
Wil I get Madras medical college or Stanley MC or kilpauk MC
Any one of these through Neet counseling???
I M eligible for both aiq and state quota…pls reply sir….I want only one of these three colleges…these r my dream colleges…

    • Not very sure about UP. But I guess the competition will be intense. AIQ cut-off for UP is around 455 for OBC. For state quota the cut-off might be in your mark range. So it might be touch and go.

    • Depends on the cut-off , BC cut-off is expected to be around 360-380, so there are high chances of getting a seat for a mark of 410 for category BC. in a govt college,

    • I think it will be difficult as the cut-off for BC is expected around 360, for BCM it may not go beyond around 330.

    • Actually cut-off means the minimum mark in that particular category and not the maximum marks. Maximum marks can be anything , even the top marks can be maximum.
So when we say the cut-off is 330 means, he minimum marks a candidate is expected to get in that category.
Having said that, since this is the first time in TN NEET is used for the state admissions, we don’t know about the actual cutoff marks that will happen. It might greater or lesser than 330 also. So please wait for the results and for the official category wise cut-off.

  25. sir i expect around 400 marks in neet 2017 i belongs to obc category can i get seats in coimbatore or chennai or madurai

  26. Sir iam getting around 420. I belong to bc caste can i get govt. College in 1st counselling or i have to wait for 2nd round??

  27. Sir my son is getting 343 in 2017 – neetexam.he comes under BC.Is there any chance to get govt.seat in mbbs or bds in Tamil Nadu.

  28. Sir my son is getting around 343 in neet2017.he comes under bc.Is there any chance to get mbbs or bds in govt. Or self-finance clg with less fees in TN.

    • It depends on the cut-off. Since NEET is held for the first time in TN, we cannot be very sure. The BC cut-off for state quota is expected to be around 360, so there is a slim chance of getting a MBBS seat. BDS should not be a problem though. For MBBS there might be a chance in the govt quota seats in the pvt medical colleges

  29. Sir, I am expecting around 470 marks in Neet 2017 and i come under SC category. Can i get into any of the government colleges in chennai? Especially Madras medical college? I have also scored 94% in my cbse boards.

  30. Sir, I am expecting around 470 in neet 2017 and i come under SC category. Will i get into any government colleges on chennai? Especially madras medical college? I have also scored 94% in cbse boards.

    • I think you should be able to get it easily through state quota. Even through AIQ you have a good chance of getting a college in TN.

      • sir what about stanley medical college and kilpauk medical college? can i get into these colleges ( MMC, Stanley MC and Kilpauk MC) through AIQ ,if by any chance TN does get exempted from NEET?

  31. Sir, I am getting around 350 to 400 in Neet. I belong to SCA category. Any chance for Chennai govt.colleges through state quota?

I am obc category what will be donation for private college i think it will be around 10-15 lakhs
    Plz reply this

    • NEET qualification is sufficient to get seat in a pvt college . Cut-off for a college depends on its reputation, competition and demand for that particular college and other factors including fees. There wil be no donation but annual fees itself is in the range of 15 lakhas per annum.

If you can afford that money you can join in any pvt college.

    • BC cut-off for MBBS is expected to be in the range of 360-380. So there is very slim chance of getting a govt seat. There might be a chance in govt seat quota in the pvt colleges and/or in the BDS.

  44. sir my neet score is 300 is there any chance of getting seat in government colleges and i belong to obc catergory from tamil nadu under state quota

  45. Sir, iam getting only 286 in neet there is a chance of getting any private colleges through 65% govt counseling…. belong to bc…atleast BDS I can get any govt college in TN….

  46. My marks is 210 in Neet 2017. My category is MBC and state board. any chances of getting any medical college through tamilnadu state quota counselling…

  47. I am expecting 435 marks. General category. Please tell if there is a chance to get a Govt or private medical college in Tamil Nadu under state quota.

    • It all depends on cutoff. We expect the TN state quota general cut-off in the range of 430, so 435 might get you a seat in the tier-2 govt medical colleges or in the govt quota of the self financing colleges.

  48. hi sir expected cutoff 263 under obc category can get bds in private colleges through government quota in tamilnadu.

    • Miss Ayisha Farha,
As I was going through your question, I can assure you that you can have an MBBS seat in your state of Tamilnad. In private medical colleges, the fee structure is fixed by the state government. About 65% admissions in private medical colleges are made through counselling. These colleges can’t charge beyond the fee structure framed by your state. Keep close eye registration, counselling and state rank merit list dates. The same procedure is followed in Maharashtra. All the best!

  73. I got 376 marks(obc-bc).can i get mbbs seat in any Govt college.or in any private college with low fees in the range 1-3 lakhs per year.pls provide some name of colleges

  83. Hey if Tamil nadu didn’t give reservation for the who studied Tamil in their higher secondary education then no one will study tamil …so no need for reservation 85:15 between state board student and CBSE student . But there should be 85% reservation for the student who studied Tamil in their 12 th…..this is upcoming crisis for Tamil …..be Tamilan share to all……
